Overview

Google is seeking a Staff Datacenter Engineer specializing in Electrical Engineering to design and commission electrical distribution systems for data centers. You'll leverage your expertise in high voltage systems and engineering software to ensure successful infrastructure delivery in Reston, VA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical field, along with a minimum of 10 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments. Your extensive background includes bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning electrical distribution systems, from High Voltage transformers to branch circuits. You are proficient in utilizing engineering software packages for design and analysis, and you have a solid understanding of electrical infrastructure. A Master's degree or a Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred, showcasing your commitment to the field.

Your experience encompasses estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, and emergency power systems. You have worked with cross-discipline teams, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, and architectural professionals, demonstrating your collaborative spirit and ability to integrate various engineering disciplines. Your familiarity with medium voltage systems further enhances your qualifications for this role.

What you'll do

As a Staff Datacenter Engineer at Google, you will take on the responsibility of conducting technical due diligence and vendor QA/QC to ensure successful product delivery. You will verify that all equipment and designs meet rigorous internal and external standards, providing technical support and guidance to stakeholders regarding the development of new infrastructure products, including high, medium, and low voltage systems. Your role will involve actively maintaining internal design specifications and standards, ensuring that they align with industry best practices.

You will collaborate closely with various teams to drive the design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations and electrical distribution systems. Your expertise will be crucial in managing the complexities of electrical systems, ensuring that they operate efficiently and reliably. You will also be involved in the continuous improvement of processes and standards within the Data Center Engineering team, contributing to the innovative environment that Google fosters.
