SpaceX is hiring a Mechanical Engineer for the Starship Tooling team to design and build critical production assets for the Starship launch vehicle. You'll work with AutoCAD and NX to create detailed models and engineering prints. This position requires experience in machine design and structural analysis.
You have a strong background in mechanical engineering with experience in machine design — you've successfully designed and built custom machinery and infrastructure for production environments. Your technical knowledge allows you to execute on structural sizing, mechanism design, and hardware fabrication, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet high standards of quality.
You are proficient in using NX for creating detailed models and engineering prints — your familiarity with AutoCAD further enhances your ability to visualize and communicate complex designs. You understand the importance of collaboration and have worked closely with vehicle engineers to influence design and manufacturing processes, maximizing production rates.
You possess strong analytical skills, enabling you to perform engineering hand calculations and analysis to size structures and mechanisms effectively. Your experience includes developing manufacturing plans and supporting machine activation with controls engineering teams, ensuring that all systems function as intended during testing phases.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are excited about the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects that aim to enable human life on Mars. You are committed to continuous learning and improvement, always seeking to enhance your skills and knowledge in mechanical engineering.
Experience with aerospace or automotive industries would be a plus, as would familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques. A background in controls engineering or automation could also enhance your contributions to the team.
As a Mechanical Engineer on the Starship Tooling team, you will design, build, and activate custom machinery and infrastructure necessary for the production and handling of Starship launch vehicles. You will collaborate with a team of elite engineers across multiple disciplines, contributing to the development of the Starfactory of the future, which aims to enable rapid build, test, and operation of transport architectures.
Your role will involve influencing vehicle design and manufacturing processes to maximize production rates — you will leverage your technical expertise to execute on structural sizing, mechanism design, and hardware fabrication. You will create detailed models and engineering prints in NX, ensuring that all designs meet the required specifications and standards.
You will perform engineering hand calculations and analysis to size structures and mechanisms, providing critical insights that will guide the design process. Additionally, you will create manufacturing planning for scope performed by internal welding and toolmaking teams, ensuring that all aspects of production are well-coordinated.
Supporting machine activation with the controls engineering team will be a key part of your responsibilities — you will perform development testing to validate that all systems operate correctly and efficiently. Your contributions will directly impact the success of the Starship program, as you help to build the technologies that will enable humanity to explore the stars.
At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and exploration. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will be valued.
Join us in our mission to make life multi-planetary — your work will have a lasting impact on the future of humanity and space exploration.
