Google is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to work on consumer electronic products. You'll leverage your mechanical engineering expertise to design, analyze, and prototype innovative solutions. This role requires 5+ years of experience in product design and failure analysis.
You hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, and you have at least 5 years of experience working with consumer electronic products. Your background includes significant experience in failure analysis, root cause identification, and solution implementation, particularly in collaboration with contract manufacturers. You are adept at communicating across various engineering teams, both within Asia and the United States, and you have successfully shipped multiple handheld consumer electronic products. Your knowledge spans various manufacturing methods used in consumer products, allowing you to navigate complex engineering challenges effectively.
You thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment where your creativity and engineering experience are essential in exploring solutions to diverse engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you actively participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts, ensuring that your contributions align with the overall product vision. You are comfortable working in a manufacturing and product-oriented development environment, collaborating with vendors and external sources to see parts through to mass production.
Your experience includes conducting complete failure analysis for manufacturing and reliability issues, brainstorming potential solutions, and implementing improved designs. You have overseen suppliers of subsystems and components from concept to mass production, ensuring that all designs meet function, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and cosmetic requirements.
A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field is preferred, along with 10 years of experience in the consumer electronics sector. Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques and a strong understanding of the product lifecycle from concept to production will set you apart.
In this role, you will be a key member of the Platforms and Devices team at Google, contributing to the design and development of innovative consumer electronic products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that your designs meet the highest standards of quality and user experience. Your responsibilities will include conducting thorough analyses of existing products, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing design changes that enhance functionality and reliability.
You will engage in brainstorming sessions with your team to explore new product concepts and refine existing designs. Your ability to communicate effectively with engineering teams across different regions will be crucial as you work to align product goals and timelines. You will also be responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process, ensuring that all components are produced to specification and meet quality standards.
As you work on various projects, you will be expected to stay updated on industry trends and advancements in manufacturing technologies.
