Staff Software Engineer

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on building and maintaining production systems. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to write high-quality code that meets operational standards, including supportability and monitoring. You are comfortable leading technical discussions and making long-term design decisions that impact multiple teams. Your mentoring skills shine as you guide junior engineers in best practices and help them grow their technical abilities.

You have a solid understanding of cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and are familiar with container orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes. Your experience includes identifying system health issues and proactively resolving defects before they escalate. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with product and engineering managers to align on project goals and timelines.

You are detail-oriented and take pride in writing clear documentation for developers, ensuring that knowledge is shared effectively across the team. Your ability to break down complex tasks and guide your teammates fosters a culture of knowledge sharing and ownership.

Desirable

What you'll do

As a Staff Software Engineer at Lob, you will take on significant technical ownership within your team. Your primary responsibility will be to write high-quality code and tests that ensure the stability and performance of our systems. You will lead the technical design for major initiatives, making critical tradeoff decisions that align with our long-term vision.

You will collaborate with other engineering teams to understand the system impacts of new features and initiatives. Your role will involve reviewing code from your peers, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring adherence to best practices. You will also be responsible for identifying areas for improvement in system health and implementing solutions to enhance stability.

In addition to your coding responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers, helping them develop their skills and understanding of software best practices. You will guide them through complex tasks and encourage a culture of continuous learning within the team. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering collaboration and ensuring that everyone is aligned on project goals.
