Senior Software Engineer II, Backend

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that scale effectively. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of debugging distributed systems. Your deep expertise in Java and Spring allows you to ship high-throughput APIs that handle significant user interactions, and you have strong opinions on service architecture and testing strategies. You thrive in collaborative environments, valuing input from diverse teams including product managers, designers, and researchers. You are curious and eager to learn, always looking for ways to innovate and improve processes. You understand the importance of user satisfaction and are driven by the impact your work has on customers.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure would be a plus, as would familiarity with microservices architecture. Knowledge of data-driven engagement strategies is also beneficial, as you will be working on features that directly influence user interactions.

What you'll do

In this role, you will write and ship impactful production code that contributes directly to user satisfaction and company growth. You will design, build, and evaluate new features and tools that drive revenue and help businesses grow better. Collaborating in a diverse, cross-functional team, you will engage with engineers, product managers, designers, and researchers, ensuring that everyone’s input is valued and considered in the development process. You will also work closely with different teams across HubSpot, contributing to the evolution of the Unified Engagement Platform. Your work will involve evaluating the performance of features and tools, iterating based on user feedback, and ensuring that the solutions you develop are both effective and efficient. You will be expected to participate in code reviews, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and contribute to the overall engineering culture at HubSpot.
