Waymo is seeking a Staff Software Engineer / Technical Lead Manager to lead the Mapping team in scaling their mapping infrastructure and evolving mapping formats. You'll work with machine learning models and backend systems. This role requires over 7 years of experience in software engineering and technical leadership.
You are an experienced manager and technical leader with over 7 years of total experience, including more than 2 years in a leadership role. You have a strong background in software engineering, particularly in backend systems, and are passionate about building scalable infrastructure. Your expertise includes evaluating and launching machine learning models, and you have a keen understanding of how to transform complex data into actionable insights. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
Experience with autonomous driving technology or mapping systems is a plus. Familiarity with high-resolution mapping techniques and data processing will help you excel in this role. You are comfortable leading teams and mentoring engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
In this role, you will lead a team of software engineers focused on scaling Waymo's mapping infrastructure. You will evaluate and launch machine learning models that automatically generate maps from raw data, ensuring that the mapping schema evolves to meet the needs of automation. Collaborating with onboard teams, you will work to make Waymo’s mapping format more automation-friendly, enhancing the overall efficiency of the mapping process. Your responsibilities will also include building backend infrastructure for storing and processing various forms of map data, as well as scaling systems to support mapping efforts across the globe.
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $238,000 to $302,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and an equity incentive plan. You will also benefit from a generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
