We are looking for a Manager of Applied Science who will lead this effort. Together, we will be pushing beyond the state of the art GenAI to automate one of the most complex systems in the world: Amazon's Fulfillment Network.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will manage a talented team of scientists to to build large-scale GenAI models that will be able to understand and reason about the state of our buildings, predict the best actions to take, and then take them.
You will face a high level of research ambiguity and problems that require creative, ambitious, and inventive solutions. You will lead a team of scientists to solve problems that will drive transformative change on a truly global scale. You will collaborate with teams of engineers to leverage solutions in production. You will lead the vision and implementation and communicate both to higher level leadership at Amazon.

About the team
Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.
The AFT AI team has deep expertise developing cutting edge AI solutions at scale and successfully applying them to business problems in the Amazon Fulfillment Network. These solutions typically utilize machine learning and computer vision techniques, applied to text, sequences of events, images or video from existing or new hardware. We influence each stage of innovation from inception to deployment, developing a research plan, creating and testing prototype solutions, and shepherding the production versions to launch.- Master's degree in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- 6+ years of applied research experience
- 3+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience
- Experience directly managing scientists or machine learning engineers
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers- PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- Experience hiring and growing top talent
- Knowledge of LLMs, Reinforcement Learning, Agentic AI systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
