Formlabs is seeking a Senior Materials Scientist to conduct research and develop innovative materials for 3D printing. You'll collaborate with engineers to ensure material performance and reliability. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in polymer development.

Job Description

Who you are

You are a highly curious formulation expert with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in polymer development, including resins, coatings, adhesives, elastomers, films, foams, rubbers, composites, thermoplastics, or thermosets. You possess a solid understanding of polymer chemistry and are eager to shape a rapidly growing industry. Your experience has equipped you with the skills to design and perform experiments that inform and develop materials performance improvements. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure that new and existing materials print seamlessly and reliably on our hardware.

You have a proven track record of conducting research and developing world-class materials for 3D printing, from initial lab explorations to validation and commercialization. Your ability to partner with product management and engineering teams allows you to continuously improve materials, ensuring they meet the high standards required for innovative applications. You are passionate about pushing the boundaries of what is possible in fabrication and are excited to contribute to a team that values experimentation and discovery.

Desirable

Experience with advanced materials characterization techniques and a background in additive manufacturing would be advantageous. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to material safety and performance is also a plus. You are open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your contributions to the team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will conduct research and develop innovative materials for 3D printing, focusing on enhancing material properties and performance. You will collaborate with hardware and software engineers to ensure that new materials integrate seamlessly with our printing technology. Your responsibilities will include designing and performing experiments to validate material performance, analyzing results, and using data to inform future material development.

You will partner with product management and engineering teams to continuously improve our materials, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our customers. Your work will involve staying up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in material science, allowing you to bring fresh ideas and insights to the team. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior team members, sharing your expertise and fostering a culture of learning and innovation.

What we offer

At Formlabs, we offer a competitive salary range of $110,000—$160,000 USD, along with equity in the form of RSUs. Your financial investment will grow with us in accordance with your impact.
