Software Engineer, AI (Ruby)

Who you are

You have 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, particularly in Ruby, and possess strong instincts for code review. You can quickly identify logic errors, performance traps, and security issues, demonstrating extreme attention to detail. Your excellent written communication skills are essential, as much of this role involves explaining the rationale behind your critiques and recommendations. You thrive in an asynchronous, low-oversight environment and enjoy reading documentation and language specifications to deepen your understanding of programming languages.

While prior experience with Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF) or AI training is not required, you are eager to learn and adapt. You are comfortable working with large-language models and are excited about the opportunity to influence how AI can improve code quality and efficiency. Your ability to critique and justify code approaches will be crucial in this role, as you will be injecting feedback into the RLHF pipeline to help the model learn effectively.

Desirable

Constraint programming experience is a bonus, but not a requirement. If you have a keen interest in AI and machine learning, this could be a great opportunity to expand your skill set in these areas while leveraging your existing software engineering expertise.

What you'll do

In this role, you will help train large-language models to write production-grade code across various programming languages. Your primary responsibilities will include comparing and ranking multiple code snippets, explaining which is best and why, and repairing and refactoring AI-generated code for correctness, efficiency, and style. You will inject feedback, such as ratings, edits, and test results, into the RLHF pipeline, ensuring it runs smoothly. Your contributions will directly impact how the model learns to propose, critique, and improve code, mirroring the thought processes of expert engineers.

You will work remotely, collaborating with a team of engineers who share your passion for improving AI capabilities. Your role will involve a minimum of 15 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 40 hours. You will be engaged as a 1099 contractor, allowing for flexibility in your work schedule.
