Overview

Apple is seeking an Optical Coatings Engineer to lead the investigation of components for display and optical sensing products. You'll work with optical coatings and thin films, requiring a strong background in optics and materials science.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a BS in Material Science, Optics, Engineering Physics, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience. Your expertise includes the optical coating process and equipment, and you have hands-on experience with optical coating and thin film characterization and metrologies. You are a flexible thinker who can problem-solve alongside a diverse team of engineers, chemists, and physicists.

Your advanced qualifications, such as an MS or PhD in a relevant field, further enhance your profile. You have a consistent track record in optical coatings, particularly with vacuum deposition coatings, showcasing your ability to lead projects from R&D to implementation. You thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated to contribute to innovative hardware technologies.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the investigation and development of optical coatings, thin films, and interference optical filters to enhance Apple's display technologies. You will collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure that the optical components meet the high standards expected in Apple products. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the entire lifecycle of optical technologies, from research and development through to practical implementation in real products.

You will engage with cross-functional teams, including optical engineers, materials engineers, and product design engineers, to drive the roadmap for optical sensing products. Your role will require you to stay abreast of the latest advancements in optical technologies and apply them to improve product performance. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and optimizing existing processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
