Job Description

Who you are

You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical/HVAC systems within industrial or commercial environments — your background includes hands-on work with mechanical systems, ensuring their efficiency and reliability. You possess an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field, which has equipped you with the necessary skills to excel in this role.

Your expertise extends to the maintenance of mechanical and cooling distribution systems — you understand the intricacies of HVAC systems and are familiar with the specific requirements of data centers, hospitals, or power plants. You are comfortable using standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and maintain systems effectively.

You are physically capable of handling material tasks, including lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs, and you are well-versed in OSHA safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment. Your ability to communicate effectively with contractors and team members is crucial, as you will coordinate maintenance and upgrade work on data center systems.

You are adaptable and willing to work non-standard hours and shifts, understanding that data center operations require flexibility to maintain uptime and efficiency. Your knowledge of meters, devices, and sensors allows you to monitor and assess the performance of mechanical systems accurately.

Desirable

Experience in data centers or similar environments is preferred, as it gives you a unique perspective on the operational challenges faced in such settings. Familiarity with advanced mechanical systems, including chillers, air handling units, and CRAC/CRAH units, will set you apart as a candidate. You are proactive in seeking solutions and improvements in facility operations, contributing to the overall success of the data center team.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical at Google, you will play a vital role in operating, monitoring, and supporting the physical conditions of data center facilities. Your responsibilities will include managing the uptime and maintenance of HVAC systems, water pumps, and treatment systems, ensuring that all equipment operates within optimal parameters.

You will respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment, taking immediate action to rectify issues and maintain operational integrity. Your role will involve supporting the startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into the existing infrastructure, ensuring seamless transitions and minimal disruptions.

You will conduct regular tours of the systems to assess their working order, identifying potential issues before they escalate. Your expertise will be crucial in troubleshooting mechanical systems, utilizing your knowledge of HVAC and cooling distribution systems to maintain efficiency and reliability.

Collaboration with contractors and other team members will be essential as you coordinate maintenance and upgrade work on the data center systems. You will ensure that all work complies with safety standards and operational protocols, contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a team that designs and operates some of the most sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems in the world. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a dynamic environment where your contributions directly impact the efficiency and reliability of our data center operations.

We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique skills and perspectives are valuable to us. Join us in shaping the future of technology and infrastructure at Google.
