Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Mechanical Engineer (Critical Infrastructure) to design and build advanced manufacturing facilities. You'll work with HVAC, fluid systems, and CAD modeling in Hawthorne, CA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in mechanical engineering with a focus on critical infrastructure projects — your expertise includes HVAC systems, fluid dynamics, and the design of complex mechanical components. You are proficient in CAD modeling and have experience performing fluid analyses to ensure system efficiency and reliability. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with architects and engineers to meet project requirements and drive innovative solutions. Your problem-solving skills are complemented by a creative approach to engineering challenges, allowing you to develop novel solutions that push the boundaries of technology.

Desirable

Experience with manufacturing facilities or aerospace projects is a plus — you understand the unique challenges associated with designing systems for high-tech environments. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to fluid systems will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team. You are eager to learn and adapt, continuously seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering.

What you'll do

As a Mechanical Engineer at SpaceX, you will take ownership of fluid and HVAC systems across the campus — this includes compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and dust collection systems. You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and testing of these systems, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of our manufacturing processes. Your role will involve performing CAD modeling to create detailed designs and conducting fluid analyses to assess pressure balance and component performance. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that all components align with production, avionics, and mission operations requirements.

You will have the opportunity to drive real global impact through your work — your contributions will play a crucial role in enabling human life on Mars by supporting the development of advanced manufacturing facilities. You will engage in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for optimization and implementing innovative solutions that enhance system performance and reliability. Your expertise will be vital in troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise during the design and implementation phases.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of space technology — we offer a dynamic work environment where your contributions will directly impact the future of humanity in space. You will have access to cutting-edge tools and technologies, allowing you to develop your skills and advance your career in mechanical engineering. We foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, encouraging you to share your ideas and insights with the team. Competitive compensation and benefits packages are provided, reflecting the value we place on our employees and their contributions to our mission.
