Job Description

Hover helps people design, improve, and protect the properties they love. With proprietary AI built on over a decade of real property data, Hover answers age-old questions like “What will it look like?” and “What will it cost?” Homeowners, contractors, and insurance professionals rely on Hover to get fully measured, accurate, and interactive 3D models of any property — all from a smartphone scan in minutes.

At Hover, we’re driven by curiosity, purpose, and a shared commitment to serving our customers, communities, and each other. We believe the best ideas come from diverse perspectives and are proud to cultivate an inclusive, high-performance culture that inspires growth, accountability, and excellence. Backed by leading investors like Google Ventures and Menlo Ventures, and trusted by industry leaders including Travelers, State Farm, and Nationwide — we’re redefining how people understand and interact with their spaces.

Why Hover wants you

Our Computer Vision team has doubled in size over the past year, and we’re looking for a strong engineering manager to keep that momentum healthy and sustainable. You’ll partner with our current CV leader to split the growing roster into focused pods, establish clear ownership boundaries, and ensure the team’s research breakthroughs continue to land in production on predictable cadences.

In this role, you’ll hire, coach, and retain top vision talent.  You'll lead a core team with an outsized impact, owning and scaling a key product line at Hover. You’ll split your time between strategic leadership—shaping the roadmap, scaling processes, and mentoring ICs—and hands-on engagement with cutting-edge 3D computer vision technology.

You will contribute by

  • Leading the Team: Build and nurture a high-performing, diverse team of senior ICs and emerging leaders. From hiring and onboarding to coaching and career-pathing, you’ll make talent development your first priority.
  • Owning a Scaling Product Line: Take end-to-end ownership of a critical computer vision product area, ensuring our research breakthroughs translate into production systems that delight customers at scale.
  • Shaping the Roadmap: Partner with Product and Design to translate market opportunities and research advances into a sequenced plan. You’ll balance innovation with operational excellence, driving projects from data strategy and experimentation through to reliable production deployment.
  • Driving Technical Excellence: Set engineering standards for accuracy, latency, cost control, and reliability. Model strong cross-functional collaboration and ensure your team’s work integrates smoothly into Hover’s larger platform.
  • Communicating Impact: Clearly articulate progress, trade-offs, and technical choices to executives, stakeholders, and the broader team; earning trust at every level.

Your background includes

  • 2+ years of managing high impact CV/ML teams (or tech lead / staff+ leadership) with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision or ML (ideally 3D reconstruction, multi-view geometry, or ML-based reconstruction).
  • Proven track record partnering with product teams to scope features, run experiments, and iterate based on customer feedback and data.
  • Familiarity with modern MLOps stacks (cloud GPUs, CI/CD, monitoring) and a passion for measurable reliability and cost control.
  • Ability to articulate complex trade-offs to executives, engineers, and customers alike.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in CS, ML, or related field.

Nice to haves

  • Experience managing geographically distributed or hybrid teams.
  • Publications in CVPR/ICCV/ECCV and a track record of turning research into revenue.

Benefits

  • Compensation - Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a fast-growing company
  • Healthcare - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents
  • Paid Time Off - Unlimited and flexible vacation policy
  • Paid Family Leave - We support work/life balance and offer generous paid parental and new child bonding leave
  • Mandatory Self-Care Days - A day set aside each month to allow employees to recharge
  • Remote Wellbeing Resources - We provide recurring fitness classes, meditation/ mindfulness tools, virtual therapy, and family planning assistance
  • Learning - We encourage continued education and will help cover the cost of management training, conferences, workshops, or certifications

Hybrid roles at Hover

Hover has Hubs in San Francisco and New York City, where we expect that all employees living within a 50-mile radius of our offices will come into their local Hover office at least three times a week to build rapport and foster organic connection.
