Overview

Are you ready to join an exciting and dynamic team of engineers? If so, Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer!

 

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, powering Microsoft’s cloud business. The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predictable, low-cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run efficiently. CO+I Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft and a key pillar in its cloud success.

 

Sovereign Cloud Engineering (SCE) develops apps and services to enable sovereign cloud datacenter operations that are scalable, effective, compliant, cost-efficient, and intelligent, providing reliable computation capacity for Microsoft clouds and services such as Azure, Microsoft 365, and Dynamics 365. We are looking for a motivated Senior Software Engineer to work with the team and partners to deliver the next generation of data center operations, meeting the growing cloud computation demands of sovereign clouds globally. If you enjoy driving innovation in a fast-paced environment, building user-focused experiences with modern technologies, and designing scalable distributed services, this is the right opportunity for you.



Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to determine user requirements for scenarios.
  • Identifies dependencies and develops design documents for products, applications, services, or platforms.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance, maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverages product knowledge and partners with stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to guide project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and supports other engineers by following best practices, monitoring systems, alerting stakeholders, and initiating actions to restore service when needed.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge, adapts to emerging trends and technical solutions, and improves availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while maintaining consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

 

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    •  OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 6+ years of working experience in large scale system architecting, design, development, testing, and release, including but not limited to web applications, microservices in layers, database design, API design, performance tuning, telemetry design and analysis
  • 3+ years of working experience in cloud-based services (Azure or AWS).
  • 3+ years of working experience in modern web framework such as Angular, React, or Vue.
  • Hands-on experience with modern software system design, architectural styles, and usage trade-offs
  • Experience with data science or machine learning is a plus.
  • Experience of leading big initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations and leveraging deep domain expertise to influence product roadmap.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
