Overview

OpenAI is seeking a Head of Sales Development to build and lead their first enterprise Sales Development organization. You'll design the operating model and engage with large enterprises to convert product usage into high-quality pipeline opportunities. This role requires strong leadership and strategic planning skills.

Who you are

You have a proven track record in sales development leadership, ideally within the technology sector, and possess a deep understanding of enterprise sales processes. Your experience includes building teams from the ground up, and you thrive in dynamic environments where you can shape the future of an organization. You are skilled in engaging with executives and translating technical concepts into business value, ensuring that your team effectively communicates the benefits of AI solutions to potential clients.

You are a strategic thinker with a strong focus on results — you understand how to convert product usage and inbound demand into actionable sales opportunities. Your leadership style fosters collaboration and innovation, encouraging your team to explore new approaches to engage with clients. You are comfortable working with cross-functional teams and have a knack for aligning sales strategies with broader organizational goals.

Desirable

Experience in the AI or technology sector is a plus, as is familiarity with enterprise-level sales cycles. You are data-driven and can leverage analytics to inform your strategies and decisions. A background in building and scaling sales teams in a startup or high-growth environment will set you apart.

What you'll do

As the Head of Sales Development, you will be responsible for establishing and leading OpenAI’s first enterprise Sales Development organization. This includes designing the operating model, creating a hiring plan, and implementing performance management strategies. You will work closely with the Chief Revenue Officer and the Enterprise Go-To-Market leadership team to define how OpenAI engages with potential clients and qualifies enterprise opportunities.

Your role will involve building a global Sales Development Representative (SDR) organization aligned with Large Enterprise and Strategic Accounts teams. You will develop training programs to ensure your team is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively engage with clients and advance opportunities through the sales funnel. You will also be responsible for setting performance metrics and ensuring that your team meets and exceeds their targets.

In addition to building the team, you will play a key role in shaping the sales strategy for OpenAI’s enterprise offerings. You will collaborate with product and marketing teams to ensure that messaging resonates with potential clients and that the sales process is streamlined and effective. Your insights will help drive the overall sales strategy and contribute to the growth of OpenAI’s enterprise business.
