Job Description

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

At Netflix, we want to entertain the world and are constantly innovating on how entertainment is imagined, created, and delivered to a global audience. Engineering teams within Netflix work hard every day to scale and innovate content production and member experiences in an ever-growing complex software landscape.

Our Content & Business Products (CBP) Engineering teams build the products and services to optimize and automate the content creation process including content planning, financing, production, promotion, and distribution. We support Netflix's enterprise needs including Finance, Talent, Tech Support, and Customer Support to ensure smooth operations. Our products enable the entire workflow of content production, from pitch to play, and provide innovative new ways to develop and manage entertainment at scale. The team’s work is critical to supporting the creation of movies and TV series that will thrill the world!

Qualifications

  • You have 5+ years of experience crafting resilient, high-scale, low-latency, distributed microservices in production environments.

  • Proficient with gRPC, GraphQL, or RESTful API design and implementation.

  • Have recent proficient experience with Java, C#, or other OO programming languages with a solid understanding of OO design principles, concurrency, multi-threading, performance tuning, and observability.

  • Have a proven track record in architecting, building, and operating distributed systems with high availability, fault tolerance, and performance.

  • Have solid experience in setting technical directions for engineering projects, making architectural decisions, and influencing partner and cross-functional teams.

  • Have the ability to proactively describe complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders, driving conversations and decisions through written and/or verbal communication.

  • Participate in our on-call rotation and lead the incident reviews.

What Sets You Apart

  • Curious about a broad range of new or unfamiliar technologies, the consumer base, and product vision.

  • Seek different perspectives, feedback, and relevant information to continuously grow and improve.

  • Maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams through clear communication.

  • Take a thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering.

  • Comfortable asking questions and seeking knowledge in unfamiliar or ambiguous situations.

  • Endeavor to elevate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of yourself and others that are conducive to fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment.

Spotlight on CBP Engineering Teams:

Source Acquisition Platform (SAP)

The Source Acquisition Platform team is responsible for the applications and services touching the acquisition, management, and evaluation of assets such as video, music and effects, subtitles, dubs, and everything used to create shows and movies available on Netflix. Our suite of services is the bedrock for applications used both internally, by Netflix creative employees, and externally by our content and fulfillment partners, creative agencies, and freelancers, curating the best and largest on-demand catalog in the world. Acquisition and Evaluation of audiovisual assets is critical for our success and to provide first-class experience to Netflix members. To achieve that, we work closely with teams in data science, encoding, catalog, and content distribution to ingest, encode, store, manage, and deploy media worldwide.

Vendor & Talent Foundations Engineering

Netflix is continuing to invest heavily to produce content this year. A production’s ability to successfully meet its schedule and budget targets depend in large part on the talent (actors, directors, writers, cast & crew, etc.), vendors hired and the quality of service provided. My team builds the platform, software and tools to enable Netflix Studio to discover, hire, onboard, and manage the best vendors and world-class talent to work on our productions. The tools also help with planning and resourcing workflows that result in the production and delivery of the highest quality content at scale.

Content Intelligence Engineering

Our objective in Content Intelligence Engineering is to equip the content team with the right data, insights, and decision support needed on their journey to create the best content, build the strongest slate, and drive each title to its optimal outcome – ultimately driving member value. The intention of this space has always been to establish the value of pre-launch intelligence across the title investment journey, fueling the next generation of filmmaking decisions.

Studio Orchestrator

The Studio Orchestrator Team develops and operates a robust platform designed for building media workflows and complete media business applications. This platform delivers essential development primitives and non-functional requirements, such as content security, enabling quick and easy creation of media applications. Currently, this platform is foundational to managing and transforming hundreds of petabytes of footage, integrating GenAI and other machine capabilities into content production, and powering Netflix's animation and visual effects initiatives.
