You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that scale effectively. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have a wealth of experience debugging complex distributed systems issues. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to develop high-performance backend services that support critical simulation infrastructure. You understand the intricacies of REST APIs and have experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment, engaging with cross-functional teams to ensure that simulation results are integrated seamlessly into the broader system architecture.
Experience with simulation technologies or autonomous systems would be a plus, as would familiarity with cloud services and infrastructure management. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling challenges and optimizing systems for performance and reliability. You have a keen interest in the latest trends in backend development and are always looking for ways to improve your skills and knowledge.
In this role, you will focus on improving backend web services that support Waymo's simulation technologies. This includes enhancing quota management systems and integrating with various systems that perform simulation preprocessing and postprocessing. You will also work on improving tools used by data center technicians to provision new systems and manage those requiring maintenance. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and reliability of the Waymo Driver, which powers the company’s autonomous ride-hail service. You will collaborate closely with technical leads and other engineers to ensure that the simulation infrastructure meets the high standards required for autonomous driving technology. You will be responsible for identifying performance bottlenecks and implementing solutions that enhance the overall efficiency of the simulation processes.
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan. You will be part of a mission-driven company that is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, working in a supportive and innovative environment.
