Who you are

You have a BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent experience, along with 10+ years of relevant engineering experience. You have several years of experience in designing and building scalable systems, particularly in the context of metrics and observability. Your expertise includes working with high-scale data processing and you are comfortable with both Java and Python, which are essential for this role. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with product managers and engineers to deliver exceptional features that meet customer needs. You are proactive in identifying challenges and enjoy solving complex problems with pragmatic solutions. You have a strong understanding of cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and are familiar with observability tools like Datadog. You are also comfortable being on call for your team’s services, ensuring operational excellence.

What you'll do

In this role, you will help design, build, and operate the next-generation query systems that will unlock new use cases for Datadog across observability, business analytics, AI/ML, and beyond. You will work closely with adjacent teams operating storage and intake systems to provide the best end-to-end platform solutions. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with engineers and product managers across Datadog to build features that exceed our customers’ expectations and work seamlessly across data platforms. You will also be involved in scaling the systems that parse, plan, execute, and cache trillions of queries per day, ensuring they remain efficient and effective. Occasionally, you will be on call for your team’s services, responding to alerts to ensure we’re always operational for our customers. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall engineering culture at Datadog, which values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity.
