Hopper is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build a world-class travel portal. You'll work with Scala and GCP services, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver quality results. This role requires strong product thinking and experience in distributed system development.
You are a backend software engineer with a strong drive to build and deliver quality results quickly. You have experience in distributed system development, particularly with Scala, and are eager to dive into unknown code bases while keeping a focus on customer outcomes. Your product thinking is anchored in understanding user needs, and you thrive in collaborative environments where you can work closely with engineers, designers, and product managers. You are comfortable operating autonomously but value high alignment within your team. You have a natural curiosity and a willingness to explore engineering improvements that can enhance both the product and team dynamics.
Experience with GCP services is a plus, as is familiarity with frontend technologies like React and TypeScript. You are open to learning and adapting to new technologies that can help you and your team succeed.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate API and full-stack solutions that enhance the Hopper travel portal. You will collaborate closely with your fellow engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure that new features are brought to market effectively. Your day-to-day will involve exploring engineering improvements and contributing to a culture that emphasizes asynchronous decision-making and minimal meetings.
