Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Scaling & Performance

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, particularly in designing and building production systems that scale effectively. You understand the intricacies of system architecture and have a proven track record of managing services from design through deployment. Your experience includes debugging complex distributed systems issues, ensuring high performance and reliability.

You possess deep expertise in Ruby and Ruby on Rails, having shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests. You have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies, and you are comfortable working with PostgreSQL to implement sharding and optimize database performance.

You are a proactive problem solver who thrives in collaborative environments. You enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability and performance. Your communication skills allow you to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You are passionate about building systems that not only meet current demands but are also prepared for future growth. You understand the importance of security and cost efficiency in infrastructure design and are committed to maintaining high standards in these areas.

What you'll do

In this role, you will join Aura's small infrastructure engineering team, where you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating flexible backend systems for a Rails API. You will architect and implement sharding in our PostgreSQL backed Rails API, ensuring that our infrastructure can support rapid scalability, especially during peak usage times such as holidays.

You will lead initiatives aimed at improving system reliability and performance, collaborating closely with product teams to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions. Your work will directly impact the user experience, as you help maintain the high standards that Aura is known for.

You will also be involved in monitoring system performance and conducting regular reviews to identify areas for improvement. Your insights will help shape the future of our infrastructure as we continue to innovate and expand our product offerings.
