Overview

Google is seeking a Site Reliability Engineering Manager to lead the Core Data team in Sydney. You'll manage large-scale distributed systems and ensure high reliability and performance. This role requires 8+ years of experience in software development and team management.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with 8 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages. Your background includes 3 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems, as well as managing teams and leading projects. You possess a Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, which is preferred, and have a strong understanding of data structures and algorithms. Your experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems, ensuring reliability and uptime for users.

You thrive in a culture of intellectual curiosity and problem-solving, and you are committed to optimizing existing systems and building infrastructure through automation. Your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis, and large-scale system design equips you to tackle the unique challenges of scale at Google. You are a proactive leader who fosters a collaborative environment, encouraging team members to excel in their roles.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS is a plus, as is familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools. You have a keen interest in improving system performance and efficiency, and you are comfortable managing on-call rotations across multiple continents. Your ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders is essential for success in this role.

What you'll do

As the Site Reliability Engineering Manager for Core Data, you will develop and execute the goals and strategy for the SRE team, aligning with organizational objectives. You will oversee the management and improvement of on-call rotations, ensuring healthy practices and responses to incidents. Your responsibilities include designing, writing, and delivering software that enhances the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Google's services. You will lead projects that focus on optimizing system performance and reliability, collaborating closely with engineering teams to implement best practices.

You will also be responsible for mentoring and developing your team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Your role will involve analyzing system performance metrics and implementing solutions to enhance service reliability.
