Come build the future with us! We are looking for a high caliber, innovative Senior Data Engineer to lead the Data Insights program in Payments Security. In Payments Security, we protect foundational systems and products that allow Amazon to accept payments for all goods, content and services that people buy at Amazon and around the world.

You will focus on creating data insights that enable the Payments Security organization secure the ecosystem in Amazon Payments that processes millions of transactions every day across dozens of countries and payment methods. Over 100 million customers and merchants send tens of billions of dollars through our systems annually. We are re-inventing the vision of our platform to provide our internal and external clients the best payment gateway service.

This position will provide you with a challenging and rewarding opportunity to enable the Payments Security organization solve difficult security problems at planetary scale. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will own designing, implementing, and maintaining data systems that drive strategic decision-making and business intelligence for Payments Security as well as Amazon Payments organizations. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the Data Insights program in Payments Security, ensuring that it is scalable, efficient, and aligned with both short-term needs and long-term business goals. You will bring your proven expertise in designing and implementing enterprise-scale data solutions using AWS cloud services, creating efficient data pipelines and ETL processes, and developing robust data warehousing and modeling strategies. You will lead the definition and adoption of data governance and quality practices, collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, and create meaningful data visualizations for stakeholders. You will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, solving complex data engineering challenges, and contributing to the organization's data-driven culture by enabling informed decision-making at all levels of the business. You are well-known for your excellent prioritization skills as well as your ability to communicate at all levels of an organization (technical and non-technical).

Key job responsibilities
- Develop the strategy and operational model for the Data Insights program in Payments Security.
- Ensure the Data Insights program in Payments Security remains aligned with both short-term needs and long-term business goals.
- Define program KPIs, regular reporting mechanisms, as well as maintaining program health.
- Establish data governance, quality practices, and data optimization mechanisms.
- Bridge technical and business requirements, including: understanding core business drivers and team-level processes, and collaborating with non-technical team members to identify, codify, and measure key business metrics.
- Leverage efforts from other data teams at Amazon to enable synergies across teams, and to prevent duplication of work.
- Provide stakeholders with deep and meaningful data insights to enable teams to make data-driven decisions.
- Identify areas of opportunity to scale and to improve the program, drive support and adoption with stakeholders.
- Develop data pipelines and ETL processes, data warehousing and modeling, system integration and cross-platform solutions.
- Perform statistical modeling, including: modeling interventions and time series metrics, advanced predictive analysis, and explaining modeling techniques to non-technical team members
- Create meaningful data visualization and representations for business stakeholders
- Work with technical team members to create and manage a cohesive data warehouse that balances accessibility and data protection
- Establish metrics to measure and analyze: adoption rates, efficiency, and impact of specific interventions on targeted outcomes
- Set up data pipelines that provide clean, accessible data while maintaining appropriate access controls
- Lead new, reoccurring, or ah-hoc data engineering initiatives with end-to-end ownership. Participate in escalations

The successful candidate must be autonomous, comfortable operating in highly ambiguous situations, and must deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Efficient time management skills are required along with the ability to deliver results in the face of uncertainty. Data Engineers in this role must show exemplary judgment in making technical trade-offs between short versus long term security and business goals. They must also demonstrate resilience and navigate difficult situations with composure and tact. The successful candidate must be one that can handle several difficult challenges and problems.

About the team
Payments Security owns full-stack Product Security for Payments across Amazon and its business units, deeply supporting the Global Payments businesses. We are part of Amazon's broader Stores Security organization responsible for protecting Amazon’s global information assets. We partner across global Payments business units to innovate in full-stack security (data, application, network, containers, infrastructure), ensuring our Payments applications and infrastructure are secure-by-design from concept to launch and into continuous operations. We are a strategic security partner to our Payments businesses ensuring we uphold the highest security bar for our production and pre-production systems, balancing short-term mitigations with long-term secure-by-design architectural solutions, making Security simpler and differentiated. We provide security “In the Cloud” and enable scalable mechanisms for software developers and systems to meet Amazon’s security and privacy requirements. We are both a customer and a partner to AWS in raising security awareness, providing scalable tools, and protecting shared infrastructure.

#JoinBST- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Experience mentoring team members on best practices- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
- Experience operating large data warehouses
- Proven experience in GenAI, Machine Learning, Advanced Statistics and Math

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $139,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $240,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
