Data Center Operations Manager, Global Server Operations

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience, along with at least 5 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware. Your background includes 2 years of experience managing technical teams, vendor or contract management, and delivery. You are flexible and able to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by the role. You have experience leading and managing projects from initiation to completion, particularly in data center environments, and are familiar with building and operating infrastructure, network, compute architecture, and Linux/Unix system administration.

You possess strong leadership skills and have a proven track record of directing operations management initiatives. Your ability to develop network architecture and lead Environmental Health and Safety initiatives is a key asset. You are comfortable working in a global environment and have experience initiating and executing initiatives that align with company objectives. You thrive in a collaborative team environment and are committed to fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Operations Manager at Google, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians, overseeing the quality installation of server hardware and components. You will take charge of complicated installations and troubleshooting, ensuring that your team installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and server software, including Google's Linux cluster. You will effectively communicate business priorities and facilitate hands-off operations to following shift leads, ensuring that data center-related priorities align with company objectives.

Your role will involve hiring, coaching, and developing your team while achieving business goals. You will implement and drive the safety culture at the site, fostering a collaborative team environment. You will also be responsible for managing vendor relationships and ensuring that all operations meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Your leadership will be crucial in maintaining the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that supports Google's powerful search technology.
