Waymo is seeking a Senior Staff Data Scientist to lead the SCORPIO team in developing data-driven models for capacity optimization in simulation environments. You'll work with Python and SQL to enhance resource allocation and forecasting. This role requires significant experience in data science and optimization techniques.

You have 5+ years of experience in data science, particularly in developing forecasting models and optimizing resource allocation. Your expertise in Python and SQL allows you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively, and you have a strong understanding of simulation environments and capacity planning. You are a strategic thinker who can define a vision and technical roadmap for data-driven projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. You thrive in collaborative settings, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive impactful results. Your leadership skills enable you to mentor junior team members and foster a culture of innovation and excellence within your team. You are passionate about using data to solve complex problems and improve operational efficiency.

Desirable

Experience in autonomous driving technology or related fields is a plus, as is familiarity with cloud computing platforms and large-scale data processing frameworks. A background in machine learning or statistical modeling would enhance your ability to contribute to the team's objectives.

What you'll do

As the founding Lead Data Scientist of the SCORPIO team, you will define the vision and strategy for capacity planning and resource optimization within Waymo's simulation environment. You will lead the development and implementation of sophisticated forecasting models to predict demand for heterogeneous TI resources, including CPU and GPU. Your role will involve analyzing simulation data to identify trends and patterns that inform resource allocation decisions. You will collaborate with engineering teams to ensure that the simulation infrastructure meets the demands of the models you develop. Additionally, you will establish metrics and processes to evaluate the effectiveness of resource utilization and make recommendations for improvements. Your insights will directly impact the efficiency of Waymo's simulation operations, contributing to the overall mission of enhancing autonomous driving technology.

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $281,000—$356,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
