Google is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and implement automation solutions for data center facilities. You'll leverage your expertise in CAD, FEA, and PLC programming to optimize mechanical processes. This role requires 5+ years of experience in mission-critical environments.
You have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, and at least 5 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments. Your background includes mechanical process engineering and manufacturing automation, where you've designed and implemented automation solutions in an industrial setting. You are proficient in CAD software, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming, which are essential for your role. You also have experience in estimation, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical data center mechanical equipment, along with knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and product quality management systems.
Your experience in the data center industry or manufacturing environments has equipped you with a strong understanding of robotics, control systems, and industrial automation. You are familiar with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab and JMP, which you use to analyze manufacturing performance and identify trends. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and software developers, to ensure the integration of mechanical and automation solutions.
A Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other relevant fields, or a professional engineering license would be a plus. Your ability to perform business case evaluations for new manufacturing technologies and equipment investments, along with presenting recommendations, sets you apart as a candidate.
In this role, you will take on complex topics related to the physical design of data centers, optimizing efficiencies and seeking continuous improvements. You will lead projects that involve the design and implementation of automation solutions, ensuring that they meet the high standards required for mission-critical facilities. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with various teams to integrate mechanical and automation solutions effectively. You will also conduct analysis on manufacturing performance to identify root causes of defects and lead process improvement projects.
You will be part of a team that mirrors a research and development department, where cutting-edge strategies are born and tested. Your contributions will directly impact how Google operates its data centers, focusing on environmentally-friendly practices and innovative technologies. You will be expected to present your findings and recommendations to stakeholders, ensuring that all solutions align with the company's goals and standards.
Google offers a dynamic work environment where your expertise will be valued and your contributions recognized. You will have the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art technologies and be part of a team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in data center design and operation. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Join us in shaping the future of technology and making a significant impact in the industry.
