Overview

Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical to support the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems in data centers. You'll work with HVAC systems and ensure optimal facility conditions. This role requires 2 years of mechanical experience in an industrial environment.

Job Description

Who you are

You have an Associate's degree or trade school certification in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 2 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment, you are familiar with the demands of maintaining complex systems. You are capable of participating in material handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment, and you understand the importance of safety equipment and ergonomic guidelines. Your experience includes working non-standard hours and adapting to shift rotations, which is essential in a data center environment.

You have a solid understanding of mechanical systems used in data centers, including chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units. Your knowledge extends to meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting techniques using standard hand tools and digital metering equipment. You are comfortable communicating with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrades on data center systems, ensuring that all work aligns with operational standards.

Desirable

Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants is a plus, as is familiarity with the maintenance of mechanical and cooling distribution systems. Your background in a construction or technical environment will help you navigate the complexities of facility operations effectively.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Facilities Technician at Google, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical conditions of data center facilities. Your responsibilities will include managing the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, as well as HVAC and control systems. You will respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively.

You will support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure. This role requires you to be proactive in identifying potential issues and implementing solutions to maintain optimal operational conditions. You will work closely with a team of technicians and engineers, contributing to the overall success of the data center operations.
