Roku is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer for their Data Platform team to build and support one of the largest data lakes in the world. You'll work with technologies like Kafka, Spark, and AWS to manage and process vast amounts of data. This role requires strong experience in data engineering and DevOps practices.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on DevOps practices, particularly in managing large-scale data platforms. Your expertise includes working with distributed systems and you have a solid understanding of data processing frameworks. You are comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability and efficiency of data pipelines.

You possess deep knowledge of tools such as Kafka, Spark, and Flink, and you have experience in building and maintaining data lakes. Your familiarity with cloud services, particularly AWS, allows you to leverage scalable solutions for data storage and processing. You are proactive in identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices in data management.

You are a strong communicator who can articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow. You are passionate about open-source contributions and are eager to engage with the community.

Desirable

Experience with additional data processing tools like Presto and Pinot is a plus. Familiarity with CI/CD practices and infrastructure as code will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team. You are open to learning new technologies and adapting to the evolving landscape of data engineering.

What you'll do

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Roku, you will be responsible for building and supporting the data platform that powers one of the largest data lakes in the world. You will work closely with the Big Data team to develop the necessary tooling for data acquisition, processing, and validation. Your role will involve optimizing data workflows and ensuring the reliability of data access in both streaming and batch modes.

You will design and implement robust data pipelines that can handle millions of queries per month while maintaining high performance and scalability. Your expertise in Kafka and Spark will be crucial in managing real-time data processing and analytics. You will also collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure that the data infrastructure meets their needs and supports their initiatives.

In addition to technical responsibilities, you will play a key role in fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the team. You will participate in code reviews, provide feedback on best practices, and help shape the technical direction of the data platform. Your contributions will directly impact how Roku connects consumers to the content they love.
