Waymo is seeking a 2026 Summer Intern for the Systems Engineer role focused on Rider Comfort. You'll develop a systems approach to enhance rider comfort and analyze data from Waymo's vehicle fleet. This internship requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with SQL.
You are a current MS or PhD student with a strong interest in systems engineering and rider comfort. You have a foundational understanding of motion control issues and are eager to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting. Your analytical skills are complemented by your ability to research and synthesize information from various sources, including industry and academic literature. You are comfortable working with large datasets and have experience writing SQL queries to extract insights. You are a collaborative team player who enjoys consulting with engineers and contributing to impactful projects.
As a Systems Engineer Intern at Waymo, you will focus on developing a systems approach to rider comfort. You will research prior art in comfort across the industry and within Waymo, analyzing existing features and metrics. Your role will involve drafting requirements to formalize testable performance expectations and consulting with test engineers to establish verification and validation methods. You will also be responsible for writing SQL queries to analyze data from Waymo's extensive vehicle fleet, looking for trends and correlations that can inform improvements in rider comfort.
