OpenAI is hiring a Data Scientist for the Strategic Intelligence & Risk team to lead econometric and experimental analysis in understanding risk in human–AI systems. You'll work with Python and SQL to design experiments and analyze changes in risk. This role requires experience in data analysis and risk management.
You have a strong background in data science, with experience in econometric and experimental analysis — you've successfully designed and executed studies that assess strategic risks in complex systems. Your proficiency in Python and SQL allows you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively, providing insights that drive decision-making. You understand the nuances of risk management and can identify causal drivers in rapidly evolving environments. You are comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring that your analyses inform product decisions and safety mitigations.
You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to convey complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders — you can translate data insights into actionable strategies that enhance safety and mitigate risks. Your analytical mindset allows you to forecast emerging trends and adapt to new challenges as they arise. You are committed to contributing to a safe online ecosystem and are passionate about the ethical implications of AI technologies.
Experience with machine learning techniques and tools is a plus, as is familiarity with risk assessment frameworks.
