We’re seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to spearhead the next generation of AI-driven shopping experiences.
As a key scientific advisor to our organization, you will pioneer breakthrough solutions in Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to revolutionize commerce at unprecedented scale. This role offers a unique opportunity to tackle complex, open-research problems at the intersection of e-commerce, conversational AI, and machine learning.
How do we use generative models to help us innovate in different ways to enhance the shopping experience? How do we generate personalized content at scale that helps customers shop? How do we revolutionize the shopping experience while pushing the limits of science and engineering?
Using Amazon’s large-scale computing resources, you will design and deploy state-of-the-art models that help customers shop on Amazon. You will participate in the larger Amazon ML community and mentor Applied Scientists and software development engineers with a strong interest in and knowledge of ML and generative AI. Your work will directly benefit the millions of customers who shop on Amazon.
We are looking for a passionate, hard-working, and talented Applied Scientist who has experience developing state-of-the-art models and deploying them to production. You will have an opportunity to make an enormous impact on the design, architecture, and implementation of innovative products used everyday by people you know.3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learninExperience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
