Who you are

You have extensive experience as a Staff Systems Engineer, particularly in developing and managing complex systems. Your background includes working with Kubernetes controllers and operators, and you have a strong understanding of application orchestration challenges. You are skilled in performance tuning and scaling, ensuring that systems can handle high loads efficiently. You thrive in collaborative environments, partnering with product teams to create simple solutions for complex problems.

Your technical expertise includes proficiency in gRPC and various data formats such as JSON and YAML. You are adept at building resilient, multi-tenant control planes and workflows that can scale to millions of pods across thousands of clusters. You understand the importance of reliability, security, and governance in system design, and you implement best practices to ensure these aspects are prioritized.

You are data-driven, using metrics to inform your decisions and continuously improve system performance. You have a knack for turning complex orchestration problems into reusable platform primitives that enhance developer experiences. You are comfortable leading projects and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable

Experience with hybrid cloud environments and multi-cluster management is a plus. Familiarity with feedback-driven control systems and application lifecycle automation will set you apart. You are also encouraged to bring any additional skills that may enhance the team’s capabilities.

What you'll do

In this role, you will engineer and develop a unified application platform that supports hybrid application management. You will leverage your expertise in Kubernetes to deliver end-to-end automation for application lifecycle management, including deployments, rollouts, and failovers. Your work will minimize manual tasks for users, allowing them to focus on higher-level objectives.

You will drive fleet-wide optimization efforts, focusing on cost, performance, and latency improvements through data-informed controls and capacity management. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency of the platform, improving metrics such as $/RPS and tail latency.

You will collaborate closely with product teams and customers to simplify complex orchestration challenges, creating reusable platform components that enhance the overall developer experience. Your role will also involve championing observability practices, ensuring that the systems you build are measurable and outcome-focused.
