Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical to operate and maintain mechanical systems in data centers. You'll work with HVAC systems and ensure optimal facility conditions. This role requires 5+ years of experience in mechanical roles.
You have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical or HVAC roles within industrial or commercial environments — you've developed a strong understanding of mechanical systems and their applications in critical settings like data centers. Your background includes an associate's degree or equivalent practical experience, which has equipped you with the necessary technical skills to excel in this role. You are familiar with safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring that you can perform tasks safely and effectively. Your experience also includes working non-standard hours and adapting to varying work rotations, demonstrating your flexibility and commitment to maintaining operational efficiency.
You possess knowledge of mechanical systems used in data center environments, such as chillers, air handling units, and cooling distribution systems — this expertise allows you to troubleshoot and maintain essential equipment effectively. You are comfortable using standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment, which enables you to assess and resolve issues promptly. Your ability to communicate effectively with contractors and team members ensures that maintenance and upgrade work is executed smoothly and efficiently.
Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants is a plus, as it provides you with a broader perspective on facility operations and maintenance. Familiarity with meters, devices, and sensors enhances your troubleshooting capabilities, allowing you to monitor and maintain systems proactively.
In this role, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical conditions of Google’s data center facilities — your responsibilities will include managing the uptime and maintenance of HVAC systems, water pumps, and control systems. You will respond to abnormal conditions in the facilities, ensuring that all systems function optimally and efficiently. Your work will involve supporting the startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment into the existing infrastructure, contributing to the continuous improvement of facility operations.
You will conduct regular tours of the systems to assess their working order, identifying any potential issues before they escalate. Your proactive approach will help maintain the high standards expected in Google’s data centers, where reliability and efficiency are paramount. You will collaborate with a team of skilled technicians and engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance overall performance.
Google provides a dynamic work environment where you can grow your skills and advance your career in mechanical engineering. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the maintenance of some of the most sophisticated mechanical systems in the world. The company values your contributions and encourages you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Competitive compensation and benefits are part of the package, reflecting the importance of your role in ensuring the reliability of our data centers.
