Wheely is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to develop scalable backend services with a focus on user privacy. You'll work primarily with Go and engage in microservices architecture. This role requires 4+ years of experience in backend development.
You have 4+ years of experience developing scalable and reliable backend services — you've successfully built and maintained systems that handle millions of rides while ensuring user privacy. Your proficiency with programming languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, C++, Java, and Kotlin allows you to choose the right tool for the job, and you understand the nuances of each language. You possess in-depth knowledge of databases and messaging systems, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, and RabbitMQ, which enables you to design efficient data storage and retrieval solutions.
You are comfortable working closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, testers, and product managers — you excel at gathering requirements and discussing project goals to ensure alignment across the board. Your ability to write clean, scalable, and efficient code is complemented by your commitment to quality, as you actively participate in unit testing and integration testing to ensure the software meets high standards.
You have experience implementing new microservices and supporting legacy systems — your understanding of microservices architecture allows you to contribute effectively to the team's goals. You are also skilled in reviewing and providing feedback on code written by peers, ensuring consistency, readability, and efficiency across the codebase. Your technical documentation skills are strong, as you write and maintain software design documents and user guides that help onboard new team members and clarify system functionalities.
Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes is a plus, as it aligns with our current tech stack. Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins will also enhance your ability to contribute to our development processes.

Your commitment to quality will be evident as you perform unit testing and participate in integration and system testing, ensuring that our software meets the highest standards. You will also review and provide feedback on code written by your peers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.
In addition to coding, you will write and maintain technical documentation, including software design documents and user guides, which are essential for onboarding new team members and ensuring clarity in our systems.
