Job Description

Overview
Azure is the fastest-growing business in Microsoft’s history and the foundation of Microsoft’s commercial cloud services. Within Azure Core, we are advancing Foundational Observability, improving existing standards and introducing innovations that set a new benchmark for reliability and resilience.   As a Software Engineer II, you will design and implement features that enhance telemetry, detection, and recovery across core infrastructure and foundational services. Your work will help ensure rapid, localized issue detection and resilient recovery at global scale, contributing to the highest standards of performance and operational excellence.   You will collaborate with experienced engineers and partner teams to integrate observability solutions with existing systems while introducing modern approaches for efficiency and impact. Responsibilities
- Implement and test software features that improve observability for Azure Core services. - Contribute to the design and development of scalable, resilient systems for telemetry and automated recovery. - Collaborate with team members to integrate solutions with existing systems and follow best practices. - Participate in incident response activities and help maintain high availability for critical services. - Write clean, maintainable code and continuously improve performance and reliability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.  
  • 2+ year(s) experience developing and debugging distributed systems or cloud-scale services.
  • 2+ year(s) of proficiency working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and deliver high-quality solutions.

Other Requirements: 

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • Stellar problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex technical challenges.
  • Familiarity with service reliability engineering and incident management.
  • Exposure to open-source frameworks and standards related to observability.
