Backend Engineer

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly with Ruby on Rails and SQL databases. Your strong software development background has equipped you with the skills to build highly scalable systems, and you have a proven track record of optimizing API performance and response times. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment, engaging with marketing, support, engineering, and product teams to drive project success. Your ability to mentor junior developers is a key asset, as you enjoy sharing your knowledge and helping others grow in their careers.

You are proficient in a variety of technologies, including PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, RabbitMQ, and ElasticSearch. Your experience with version control systems like Git and GitHub ensures that you can manage code effectively. You are also familiar with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and have experience deploying applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to bring new development ideas to the table, contributing to the overall growth of the business.

Desirable

Experience with cloud-based shipping software or logistics platforms would be a plus. Familiarity with agile methodologies and a strong understanding of the product lifecycle will help you excel in this role. What you'll do

As a Backend Engineer at Easyship, you will participate in the entire product lifecycle, from concept to deployment. Your primary responsibility will be to build and maintain the back-end of our web applications, focusing on scaling our RESTful API and optimizing its performance. You will work closely with engineering leadership and the product team to establish priorities and manage our technical roadmap. Your role will also involve providing training and support to internal teams, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed.

You will have the opportunity to drive the development of new products internally, collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative ideas to life. Mentoring junior developers will be a key part of your responsibilities, as you help them navigate challenges and grow their skills. You will also be expected to contribute to the technical direction of the team, bringing new development ideas that benefit the business and enhance your own professional growth.
