SpaceX is hiring a Thermal Development Technician to work on the Heat Shield for the Starship. You'll be involved in the fabrication and processing of thermal protection systems. This role requires hands-on experience in a technical environment.
You are a hands-on technician with a passion for space exploration and a desire to contribute to the development of next-generation rockets and spacecraft. You thrive in environments that require precision and attention to detail, and you are comfortable working with various materials and processes. You have a basic understanding of engineering drawings and can interpret symbols and notes effectively. You are eager to learn and grow within a team that tackles some of the toughest challenges in aerospace.
Experience in manufacturing or fabrication processes is a plus, as well as familiarity with ceramic materials and thermal protection systems. You may have a background in mechanical or materials engineering, or relevant technical training that equips you for this role.
As a Thermal Development Technician, you will preprocess and manufacture ceramic fibers, filaments, and powders essential for the fabrication of thermal protection systems. You will be responsible for fabricating ceramic refractory billets, tiles, thermal gap fillers, and coatings that ensure the robustness of the heat shield. Your role will involve preparing basic laminate fabrication, conducting surface preparation, and performing vacuum bag processing, bonding, and oven curing. You will document processes meticulously to ensure replicability and perform product inspections and rework as necessary. You will also assist in the maintenance and repair of equipment used in the fabrication process, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
