Waymo is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to scale the development of machine learning-based metrics and evaluation datasets. You'll work with Python and TensorFlow to address novel evaluation problems. This role requires significant experience in machine learning and data analysis.
You have 5+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, with a strong background in developing and deploying machine learning models. Your expertise in Python and TensorFlow allows you to tackle complex evaluation problems effectively. You have a proven track record of contributing to the improvement of ML models and training regimes, demonstrating your ability to innovate and drive results.
You possess excellent analytical skills, enabling you to develop and execute strategies for democratizing ML-based development across teams. Your experience includes training large offboard models to generate ideal references for measuring on-vehicle driving performance. You are also skilled in providing technical mentorship and guidance to fellow engineers, fostering a collaborative environment.
Your strong communication skills allow you to align multiple teams, including Driver Understanding, Simulation, and System Engineering, ensuring that everyone is working towards common goals. You are passionate about improving access to mobility and saving lives through technology, aligning with Waymo's mission.
Experience with large-scale data mining and analysis tools is a plus. Familiarity with autonomous driving technology or related fields will enhance your contributions to the team. You are open to learning new technologies and methodologies to stay at the forefront of the industry.
In this hybrid role, you will report to the Sr. Staff Manager and play a critical part in scaling the development of machine learning-based metrics and evaluation datasets. You will address novel evaluation problems by contributing core improvements to our ML models and training regimes. Your strategic and hands-on contributions will help solve some of the toughest evaluation challenges faced by Waymo.
You will develop and execute a strategy to democratize ML-based development and deployment of metrics and datasets across the organization. This involves improving modeling, mining, training, analysis, and deployment tools to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the evaluation process.
Your role will also include training large offboard models to generate ideal references against which to measure on-vehicle driving performance. You will provide technical mentorship and thought leadership to other engineers within the team and across collaborating groups, ensuring that best practices are shared and implemented.
You will guide and align multiple teams, including Driver Understanding, Simulation, System Engineering, and Research, to ensure that evaluation metrics are effectively integrated into the development process. Your contributions will directly impact the success of Waymo's autonomous driving technology and its mission to improve mobility.
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $281,000—$356,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
