Job Description

Amazon Operations Technology is looking for an experienced System Development Engineer to join our CIA Connectivity Services team in Austin, TX. In this role you will be solving challenging problems and developing scalable, high-performing solutions that require minimal long term sustaining and development.

Our team builds solutions that span Amazon Stores and FC networks. Our services and infrastructure is foundational for over 100,000 Amazonians and hundreds of thousands of IP-enabled devices that get packages to customers every day.

Key job responsibilities
• You will partner with System Engineers, Network Engineers and Software Engineers globally to develop simple and efficient technology for our Fulfillment Centers and Transportation Sites.
• You will work with a wide variety of technologies and projects that range from third party enterprise solutions to open source and proprietary inventions.
• Technicians and Engineers worldwide will look to you for mentorship, guidance and solutions to complex business problems that are truly unique to Amazon.
• We value performance, simplicity, and scalability in our designs. In your day-to-day work you will focus on automation of complex tasks to allow our business to scale with customer demand

A day in the life
As an Engineer in the team, you’ll be building high-quality, scalable code that supports critical features used by our customers. You’ll collaborate closely with peers and senior engineers- reviewing designs, participating in code reviews, and implementing solutions with an eye for reliability and performance. You’ll work through varying levels of ambiguity, diving deep into systems to understand how things work and why, and breaking down complex problems into simple, maintainable components. Whether you’re writing a new service, fixing a bug, or contributing to architecture discussions, you’ll be expected to own your deliverables, seek feedback early, and iterate fast. Curiosity and continuous learning are central to this role- you’ll explore new tools, ask thoughtful questions, and seek out opportunities to grow both technically and professionally.

About the team
CIA Connectivity Automation is a team who supports each others growth. The team is invested in helping each other to build the best solutions we can. As owners of our operations, we are also strongly motivated to continually up-level our operational excellence, so we can keep delivery high by minimizing the technical debt of our solutions.
- 1+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python,Java, C++, C#, Rust, Ruby, Golang,
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Relevant experience in software development, systems engineering, SRE or DevOps roles
- Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (host networking, storage, operating systems).- 1+ years experience in delivering cloud-based systems, infrastructure, or tools on a modern cloud platform such as AWS, GCP, Azure.
- Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
