Overview

Google is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to build and maintain large-scale distributed systems. You'll work with Java and Python, focusing on optimizing existing systems and automating routine tasks. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 2 years of relevant experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with at least 2 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages. Your background includes a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms, and you have experience working with computing, distributed systems, storage, or networking. You possess the ability to debug and optimize code, and you are skilled at automating routine tasks. Your problem-solving approach is excellent, and you communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

You thrive in a culture that combines software and systems engineering, and you are passionate about building and running large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. Your experience includes designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems, and you are eager to tackle the complex challenges unique to Google Cloud. You are intellectually curious and enjoy collaborating with a diverse team of professionals.

Desirable

Experience with cloud services, particularly Google Cloud, is a plus. Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools, as well as CI/CD pipelines, will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team. You are open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can improve system reliability and performance.

What you'll do

As a Site Reliability Engineer at Google, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and uptime of Google Cloud's services. You will work closely with engineering teams to optimize existing systems and build infrastructure that supports scalability. Your responsibilities will include debugging, triaging product or system issues, and analyzing the sources of issues to resolve them effectively. You will participate in design reviews with peers and stakeholders, contributing your insights on available technologies and best practices.
