Astranis is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build mission-critical software for satellite control and monitoring. You'll work with Java and Spring to develop high-performance services. This role requires significant backend engineering experience.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that are reliable and scalable. You understand the intricacies of designing services that can autonomously control complex systems, such as satellites, and you have a knack for monitoring telemetry for anomalies to ensure operational integrity.
Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you've developed high-performance applications that handle critical tasks and have a strong understanding of service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where precision and reliability are paramount.
You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and system architects. You thrive in environments where you can contribute to both commercial and government programs, ensuring that the software you build meets stringent requirements for uptime and security.
You are passionate about technology and its potential to expand humanity's reach into the solar system. You believe in the importance of a diverse and inclusive workplace and are eager to bring your unique perspective to the team.
Experience with satellite systems or aerospace technology would be a plus, as would familiarity with cloud services like AWS. You are also open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your contributions to the team.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Platform team, you will design and build services that autonomously control satellites and monitor telemetry for anomalies. Your work will provide real-time situational awareness to keep the fleet safe and operational. You will be responsible for developing the core components and services that power the software organization, enabling teams to move faster and more reliably.
You will engage in the full software development lifecycle, from initial design through deployment and monitoring. This includes writing clean, maintainable code, conducting code reviews, and collaborating with other engineers to ensure best practices are followed. You will also be involved in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise in production, ensuring that the software operates flawlessly under all conditions.
Your role will require you to stay updated with the latest technologies and industry trends, applying them to improve the systems you work on. You will also have opportunities to mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow in their careers.
Astranis provides a dynamic work environment where innovation is encouraged. You will be part of a team that is at the forefront of satellite technology, contributing to projects that have a significant impact on global communications. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional development and growth within the company. Join us in our mission to connect the world and expand humanity's reach into the solar system.
