Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician to maintain and operate generator systems in their data centers. You'll leverage your expertise in generator inspection and maintenance to ensure optimal facility conditions. This role requires 5+ years of relevant experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field, along with at least 5 years of generator experience in an industrial or commercial environment. Your background includes generator inspection, maintenance, and operations, and you are comfortable participating in material handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs. You are familiar with OSHA standard safety equipment and understand the importance of safety protocols in your work environment. You are flexible and able to work non-standard hours and varying shifts, adapting to the needs of the data center.

Your experience includes maintenance of generator systems or working in a construction or technical environment. You have a solid understanding of generator systems used in data centers, including engines, alternators, control panels, and electrical systems. You are knowledgeable about meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting techniques, utilizing standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment effectively. Your communication skills allow you to collaborate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on data center systems, ensuring smooth operations.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Facilities Technician at Google, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical conditions of the data center facilities. Your responsibilities will include performing major and minor repairs on engines, alternators, control panels, and electrical systems. You will be tasked with operating and maintaining generator systems, responding to abnormal conditions, and ensuring the reliability of the facilities systems and equipment. You will support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new generator equipment into the facilities infrastructure, playing a crucial role in maintaining operational excellence.

You will work closely with the Data Center team, which designs and operates sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems. Your role will involve monitoring the performance of these systems and troubleshooting any electrical failures using diagnostic tools and technical manuals. You will be expected to maintain a proactive approach to facility management, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally and that any issues are addressed promptly.
