Waymo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on the Linux Kernel for their autonomous driving technology. You'll be responsible for writing Linux Kernel drivers and collaborating with various teams to enhance the Waymo Driver. This role requires expertise in embedded systems and Linux.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly with a focus on low-level system software and embedded systems. Your background includes writing Linux Kernel drivers and creating user-space APIs to interface with custom hardware. You understand the intricacies of performance analysis and debugging in complex systems, and you thrive in collaborative environments where you can work closely with hardware and machine learning teams.
Your expertise in Linux is complemented by a strong understanding of embedded systems, including custom ASICs and FPGAs. You have a passion for building performant and low-latency solutions, and you enjoy tackling challenges that come with developing software for autonomous driving technologies. You are detail-oriented and have a knack for optimizing system performance while ensuring reliability.
Experience with autonomous driving technology or related fields is a plus. Familiarity with high-bandwidth data logging and inter-process communication (IPC) will help you excel in this role. You are also encouraged to bring any experience you have with performance analysis tools and techniques.
In this role, you will be a key member of the System Software Team at Waymo, responsible for developing and maintaining the primary compute node of Waymo's on-vehicle compute platform. You will write and optimize Linux Kernel drivers that facilitate communication with custom hardware components, ensuring that the Waymo Driver operates at peak performance.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Hardware, Compute, Sensor, Perception, and Behavior teams, to integrate software solutions that enhance the overall functionality of the self-driving system. Your work will involve full-system debugging and performance tuning, where you will analyze system performance metrics and make recommendations for improvements.
You will also participate in design reviews and contribute to architectural decisions that impact the system's performance and reliability. Your role will require you to stay updated with the latest advancements in embedded systems and Linux development, ensuring that Waymo remains at the forefront of autonomous driving technology.
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
