Netflix is seeking a Distributed Systems Software Engineer (L5) to enhance their Open Connect Control Plane. You'll work with technologies like Java, Python, and AWS to improve content delivery and network insights. This role requires strong experience in distributed systems and software engineering.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in distributed systems, and have a solid understanding of how to build and manage scalable applications. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to develop robust solutions that enhance performance and reliability. You are comfortable working with Linux environments and have experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes. Your knowledge of REST APIs and SQL databases enables you to design efficient data interactions and storage solutions. You are proficient in using Git for version control and understand the importance of maintaining clean, well-documented code. You are a problem solver who enjoys tackling complex challenges and can think critically about how network behavior impacts user experience.
Experience with cloud services, particularly AWS, is a plus, as is familiarity with monitoring tools like Elasticsearch. You have a keen interest in network measurement and insights, and you understand how to leverage data to drive business value. You are a team player who values collaboration and communication, and you are eager to share your knowledge with others.
In this role, you will be part of the Geo and Network Intelligence team within Open Connect, focusing on enhancing Netflix's content delivery network. You will work on projects that leverage physical infrastructure to improve streaming experiences for millions of users worldwide. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing systems that monitor network performance and detect anomalies at scale. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights and develop solutions that protect and enhance the business. You will also contribute to the development of Probnik, our network measurement framework, and work on tools like Fast.com to provide valuable insights to our partners.
You will be expected to stay updated on industry trends and best practices in distributed systems and content delivery. Your role will involve analyzing network data to identify opportunities for improvement and working closely with engineering and product teams to implement changes. You will participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall technical direction of the team, ensuring that best practices are followed and that the team continues to grow and improve.
