Turion Space is seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer to lead the design and implementation of satellite systems. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to maximize satellite capabilities, requiring expertise in Thermal Desktop and 3D CAD.
You have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and over 5 years of experience in the Space industry as a Thermal Engineer. Your expertise with Thermal Desktop allows you to lead thermal design projects effectively, and you are proficient in performing hand calculations to validate your designs. You have experience with 3D CAD tools, enabling you to create detailed models and layouts for thermal systems. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Thermal Analysis, you consult with other disciplines to ensure the thermal aspects of satellite systems are optimized. You are also committed to mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their careers.
You are driven by creativity and ambition, always looking for ways to improve the architecture of vehicle systems as missions become more complex. Your ability to automate workflows helps reduce engineering investment in the design cycle, making you a valuable asset to the team. You understand the importance of operational simplicity and strive to produce quality documentation that minimizes errors and enhances efficiency.
Experience with TVAC testing and thermal balances is a plus, as is familiarity with selecting in-house testing equipment and external testing facilities. Your background in the Space industry equips you with the knowledge to execute thermal design trades that maximize satellite mission performance.
In this role, you will lead the thermal design of hardware, starting from high-level layouts and analysis down to the validation of performance through ground tests. You will collaborate closely with the Turion Space team, working across software and hardware systems to enhance satellite capabilities. Your responsibilities will include designing and executing thermal vacuum tests, performing hand calculations, and comparing results against model outputs to ensure accuracy and reliability.
You will also be responsible for selecting appropriate testing equipment and facilities, ensuring that all thermal testing is conducted to the highest standards. As you lead thermal design projects, you will execute design trades to optimize satellite mission performance, balancing various engineering requirements and constraints.
Your role will involve ongoing mentorship of junior engineers, providing guidance and support as they navigate their own projects. You will be expected to document your work thoroughly, producing quality documentation that reduces the miss-rate and improves overall efficiency within the team. Your contributions will directly impact the success of Turion Space's missions, as you help shape the future of satellite technology.
At Turion Space, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to building spacecraft that secure Earth and expand humanity's reach beyond it. We offer a full-time, exempt position based at our Irvine, California headquarters, where you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in the Space industry. You will be surrounded by talented professionals who share your passion for innovation and excellence, and you will have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the architecture of satellite systems.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Join us in our mission to push the boundaries of space exploration and technology.
