Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Program Manager for Data Center Construction to lead complex projects in engineering and construction. You'll work with technical teams and manage vendor relationships, requiring 5+ years of experience in program management.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with at least 5 years of experience in program or project management. Your background includes working with technical teams responsible for the engineering and construction of data centers or mission-critical facilities. You possess a strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, controls, security monitoring, fire safety, networking/fiber, server equipment, systems, or infrastructure. You are comfortable traveling and being onsite 5 days a week, ensuring that you can effectively manage projects in person.

You have a proven track record of managing cross-functional or cross-team projects, demonstrating your ability to coordinate efforts across various stakeholders. Your experience includes managing vendor relationships, which is crucial for ensuring project success. You understand standard practices in the design and construction industry, including fast-track design-build processes, which allows you to navigate complex project requirements effectively.

As a Program Manager at Google, you will lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You excel in planning requirements, managing project schedules, identifying risks, and communicating clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. Your ability to work effectively within a matrix organization will be key to your success, as you will collaborate with various teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain project momentum.

Desirable

You have additional experience in managing vendor relationships and a deep understanding of electrical or mechanical systems. Your knowledge of the design and construction industry standards will help you develop creative solutions to construction issues, minimizing impacts on project timelines and costs. You are a problem solver at heart, believing that a problem isn’t truly solved until it’s resolved for all involved.

What you'll do

In this role, you will coordinate the players involved in your projects, keeping them updated on progress and deadlines. You will analyze and evaluate construction issues, developing creative solutions that minimize impacts on project timelines and costs. Your responsibilities will include communicating project updates, risks, and opportunities to leadership and stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is aligned and informed.

You will lead complex projects that often span offices, time zones, and hemispheres, requiring you to manage diverse teams and stakeholders effectively. Your role will involve planning and executing project schedules, identifying potential risks, and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all project deliverables meet quality standards and are completed on time.

As you work with cross-functional partners, you will foster collaboration and communication, ensuring that all team members are engaged and informed. Your ability to navigate complex project dynamics will be essential in driving project success and achieving desired outcomes. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior team members, sharing your expertise and helping them grow in their roles.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to building infrastructure that creates opportunities for everyone. You will work in a collaborative environment that values innovation and creativity, allowing you to contribute to meaningful projects that have a global impact. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products. Join us in shaping the future of data center construction and infrastructure development.
