What you'll do

As a Machine Learning Engineer Intern at Upstart, you will assist in building and improving production models that are central to our business — your work will directly contribute to enhancing our AI lending marketplace. You will collaborate with research scientists and data scientists to develop tools that support underwriting, pricing, and fraud detection.

You will engage in data preprocessing and feature engineering, ensuring that the data used for model training is of high quality — this involves cleaning, transforming, and analyzing datasets to extract valuable insights. You will also participate in model evaluation and optimization, helping to refine algorithms to improve performance and fairness.

Throughout your internship, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field — you will gain exposure to various machine learning techniques and best practices, as well as insights into the lending industry.
