AWSElectrical engineeringMechanical engineering

Overview

Amazon is hiring an Engineering Technician to maintain and troubleshoot mission-critical technology infrastructure in Avondale, Arizona. You'll work with electrical and mechanical systems to ensure 99.999% uptime for AWS data centers.

Job Description

Who you are

You are an Engineering Technician with a strong foundation in electrical and mechanical systems — you understand the intricacies of maintaining mission-critical technology infrastructure and have hands-on experience troubleshooting complex equipment. Your expertise in AWS infrastructure services allows you to contribute effectively to the seamless operation of data centers, ensuring that global digital experiences remain uninterrupted. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working alongside a diverse team of engineers and specialists to solve challenging problems.

You possess a solid understanding of electrical systems, including three-phase electrical systems, switch gear, UPSs, and PDUs — your ability to operate and maintain these systems is crucial for the role. Additionally, your knowledge of mechanical systems such as centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and air handlers equips you to handle the various challenges that arise in a data center environment. You are detail-oriented and committed to achieving high standards of operational excellence.

Desirable

Experience with diesel generators and fuel systems is a plus, as it enhances your capability to manage the power systems that support data center operations. Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques and a proactive approach to maintenance will set you apart as a candidate. You are eager to learn and grow within the organization, contributing to the continuous improvement of operational processes.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the electrical and mechanical systems that support Amazon's data centers — your work will directly impact the uptime and reliability of critical infrastructure. You will operate and maintain stand-by diesel generators, ensuring that backup power systems are ready to kick in when needed. Your expertise will also extend to managing three-phase electrical systems, including switch gear and UPSs, to guarantee that all equipment operates smoothly.

You will collaborate with a team of engineers to monitor and optimize the performance of cooling systems, including CRAC units and centrifugal chillers — your contributions will help maintain the ideal operating conditions for servers and other critical equipment. As part of your responsibilities, you will conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify potential issues before they escalate, ensuring that the data center operates at peak efficiency.

You will also participate in troubleshooting efforts when issues arise, working closely with other technicians and engineers to diagnose problems and implement effective solutions. Your role will require you to document maintenance activities and system performance, contributing to the overall knowledge base of the team and helping to improve operational practices.

What we offer

Amazon provides a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, financial, and other perks designed to support your well-being and career growth. You will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where innovation and collaboration are encouraged. As part of a global team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of cloud infrastructure and technology services. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your passion for technology and commitment to excellence are what matter most.
