Job Description

Join our innovative tax team where you'll shape the future of tax compliance solutions while collaborating with diverse professionals across Amazon. Make a significant impact by developing and implementing next-generation tax technologies and processes in support of Project Kuiper and other telecom initiatives at Amazon.



Key job responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of U.S. indirect tax filings for Amazon and its subsidiaries; specifically, state and local gross receipts taxes, sales and use taxes on telecommunication services, E911/988 surcharges, utility users taxes, Universal Service Fund (USF) contributions, regulatory fees (PUC), franchise fees, and other telecommunication-specific excise taxes and surcharges.
- Resolve tax payable account balances and ensure compliance with internal controls, including reconciliations by tax type and taxing jurisdiction.
- Identify and implement efficiencies in compliance processes, , leveraging emerging technology and best practices.
- Research and analyze taxes imposed on telecommunication services to provide guidance on impacts to the company’s operations and compliance obligations.
- Provide comprehensive support to cross-functional stakeholders in tax audit, tax planning, and finance technology (FinTech) by gathering documentation to resolve audit information data requests, assessing the impact of tax planning requirements from internal and external changes to Amazon, and assisting FinTech to deploy and maintain tax compliance services.


A day in the life
You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance tax compliance processes, mentor team members, and contribute to technological innovations. You'll participate in strategic discussions about process improvements and work closely with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and business licensing.

About the team
We are a collaborative group within Amazon's Tax Department focused on creating innovative solutions for tax and business license compliance. Our team values continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives drive creative solutions.- 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
- Bachelor's degree
- Expertise in the application and reporting of sales/tax, USF, E911/911 surcharges, and other regulatory fees to telecommunication services- CPA, or Master's degree
- Proficiency with tax compliance software (e.g., Vertex), ERP systems (Oracle, SAP) and telecommunication billing systems.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $80,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
