Ready to shape how millions of fans discover, acquire, and dive into their next favorite Manga? Join our JP Manga team where your code directly impacts the reading journey of passionate enthusiasts across Japan!

We are looking for a seasoned leader for a team of Software Development Engineers in our Tokyo office to own Manga services and features on Amazon Japan website across all platforms (desktop, mobile browser, mobile shopping app). A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences as well as backend services, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, experience in managing and growing developers, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.

In this team you will have the opportunity to:
- Solve challenging problems at significant scale,
- Be responsible for the overall systems development life cycle,
- Develop the long-term strategy for your programs and translate that into an achievable roadmap/action plan,
- Lead execution against project plans and delivery commitments,
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.


Key job responsibilities
• Overall systems development life cycle.
• Development of the long-term strategy for your programs and translating that into an achievable roadmap/action plan.
• Execution of project plans and management of delivery commitments.
• Management of the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
• Establishing the best technical design and approach with the engineering team.
• Reporting on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to the leadership.
• Close collaboration with Product Managers, Sr Manager, and UX across Manga.- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
