Job Summary:


Are you ready to play a pivotal role in revolutionising local and state government through cutting-edge technology? OpenGov seeks an experienced Sr. Manager, Engineering to lead our innovative team of Procurement and Contract Management. This role is perfect for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-tenant SaaS environment and is passionate about leveraging React, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS to build world-class solutions that will directly impact the effectiveness of local and state governments.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute a comprehensive technical strategy that aligns with the company's long-term objectives, ensuring a robust and future-proof engineering roadmap.

  • Drive a long-term vision to scale engineering processes, infrastructure, and technology stacks to support organisational growth and evolving business needs.

  • Influence senior leadership and stakeholders by providing insights and recommendations on technology trends, competitive landscape, and strategic opportunities.


Leadership and Management:

  • Lead one or more engineering teams, including senior and mid-level engineers, providing strategic direction and ensuring cohesive execution across all projects.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent, shaping an organizational structure that supports career growth, learning, and performance excellence.

  • Foster a collaborative environment between teams, promoting information sharing, best practices, and a unified approach to product development.

  • Spearhead major cross-functional initiatives, ensuring their successful execution and alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.


Technical Expertise:

  • Oversee the architectural design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable, and secure multi-tenant SaaS solutions on AWS, setting high standards for technical excellence.

  • Champion innovative technologies and development methodologies, ensuring the continuous evolution of our technical stack and processes to stay ahead of market demands.


Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and architects to ensure alignment between technical capabilities and business goals.

  • Maintain clear and transparent communication channels within and across teams, providing updates on project status, system architecture, and timeline expectations.

  • Coordinate with distributed teams to ensure seamless feature delivery in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Operational Excellence:

  • Define and enforce stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and reliability metrics, driving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

  • Transform existing processes by implementing proactive, efficient, and resilient systems that enhance operational performance and reduce technical debt.

  • Lead initiatives that promote a culture of continuous improvement, embedding best practices and operational efficiencies across the engineering organization.

Requirements and Preferred Experience:

  • 10+ years of combined experience, including 5+ years of technical leadership and people management roles, and at least 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with one or more modern languages such as Java,.NET, JavaScript, or NodeJS.

  • Demonstrated success in leading multiple teams and scaling engineering organizations to meet substantial business growth demands.

  • Proven expertise in AWS cloud services and cloud-native architecture, with a strong ability to guide and mentor teams in leveraging these technologies.

  • Comprehensive understanding of API design, multi-tenant architectures, distributed systems, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Proven track record of successfully driving large-scale, consumer-facing enterprise SaaS software projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of industry best practices in software development, architecture, and operational excellence.

  • Experience in leading organizational change and driving cross-functional initiatives that align with business strategy and goals.

  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels across the organization.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a history of driving clarity and successful outcomes in complex, ambiguous situations.

  • Exemplary collaboration skills, fostering a culture of teamwork, transparency, and trust within and across engineering teams.

Compensation:

$190,000 - $224,000

On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.

The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
